Internship Description :The World Health Organization (WHO) as the leader in global
public health issues is committed to building future leaders in public
health, medicine and other fields related to its technical work. Course(s) Offered: Several (health, medicine, social fields, management, admin) .
The WHO Internship Programme offers a wide range of opportunities for students worldwide. Please note: WHO does NOT charge for internships so beware of any programmes that "facilitate" your obtaining an internship but require payment.
Course Level: Undergraduate, Postgraduate.
Internship Location: Worldwide (Switzerland, Country offices)
Internships are generally accepted for either winter or summer period. Applications for Winter Internships commence 1 August 2016 and ends 30 September 2016.
Eligibility (who are we looking for?)
To be eligible, the following must apply:

- You are at least twenty years of age on the date of application;
- You are enrolled in a course of study at a university or equivalent institution leading to a formal qualification (graduate or postgraduate) (applicants who have already graduated may also qualify for consideration provided that they start the internship within six months after completion of their formal qualification);
- You have completed three years of full-time studies at a university or equivalent institution prior to commencing (bachelor's level or equivalent) the assignment;
- You possess a first degree in a public health, medical or social field related to the technical work of WHO or a degree in a management-related or administrative field;
- You are not related to a WHO staff member (e.g., son/daughter, brother/sister, or mother/father);
- You are fluent at least in one of the working language of the office of assignment; and
- You have not previously participated in WHO’s Internship Programme.

Internships are in a wide variety of areas including Medicine, Public Health, Social fields (related to technical work of WHO), Management-related, Administration, etc. The more specific you can be in your request, the better chances there will be to suitably match you to one of the technical programmes under the internship.

Internship duration
The duration is between 6 weeks to 3 months. Exceptionally, internships may be extended up to a maximum of 24 weeks depending on your degree requirements.
Internship benefits
Offers a wide range of opportunities for students to gain insight into the technical and administrative programmes of WHO. Unfortunately, however, WHO internships are not paid and all costs of travel and accommodation are the responsibility of the intern or the sponsoring institution.
WHO does not charge for internships. If you encounter programmes that "facilitate" your obtaining an internship by paying money, please contact the WHO. WHO does not charge for internships.

DEADLINES:
To be considered for a WINTER internship, applications are accepted between August 1 - September 30 each year. Winter internships are usually held between November and April, the following year. To be considered for a SUMMER internship, applications are accepted between December 1 - January 31 each year. Summer internships are usually held between May and October.

The World Health Organization (WHO) is a specialized agency of the United Nations (UN) that is concerned with international public health. It was established on 7 April 1948, with its headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland. WHO is a member of the United Nations Development Group.
