Calabar Carnival -Africa's Biggest Street Party

The Calabar Carnival has come a long way..it all started 2004, when the governor of Cross River State,Mr Donald Duke, had a vision of making his state the hub for tourism and hospitality in Nigeria and in Africa. The Carnival presents a perfect platform from brand visibility for consumer and market awareness. "According to Osima-Dokubo, the carnival aimed to include more aspects of local heritage and culture and at the same time strengthen the capacity of the locals to participate in an economically beneficial way", . Recently, Cross River State and Calabar has become the pride of Nigeria or Africa as far as tourism, carnivals and hospitality is concerned.
Calabar Carnival festival in Nigeria, also tagged " Africa's Biggest Street Party", was created as part of the vision of making the Cross River State in Nigeria, the number one tourist destination for Nigerians and tourist all over the world. The carnival which begin on every 1 December and last till 31 December has boosted the cultural mosaic of Nigeria people while entertaining the millions of spectators within and outside the State, and boosting industry for all stakeholders.




Osun Festiva

Osun festival

The Osun festival is traced to the centuries. A festival to celebrate the  goddess of Osun.
The Osun festival is one of the most regarded cultural festivals in Nigeria.  It usually takes place in the month of July and August every year. Off to the Sacred Forest of Osun, in a one week colourful festival to honour and reverence the river goddess, Oshun of Osun State, people come here to get their solutions to their problems.
 







Isiokpo New yam Festival

 The New yam festival is dated back centuries from the days of OKPO WAGIDI.  
Traditional Head: The traditional Head is called NYE NWE ALI. Who is currently HRM. (Eze) Blessing Wagor JP.
Location: Isiokpo is located within the present Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers state. The community share land boundaries with Elele, Omagwa, Ibaa, Emohua, Choba, Ogbakiri, Aluu.

The Isiokpo New yam Festivals are popular holiday in Isiokpo, as it is a significant sign that farming season has come to an end for that present season.
The Festival  usually held in the beginning of September or the  at the end of the rainy season. It is named after yams, the most common food in many Ikwerre communities. In Rivers state, dancers wear masquerades.


People offer yams to gods and ancestors before distributing them to the villagers to give thanks to the spirits above them.  Oriji  is the name for the annual New  Nigeria, the ancient kingdom and the ancestral home of the Ikwerre Kingdom, to honor of the earth goddess and the ancestral spirits of the land. And so many others celebrated.

Ofala Festival
The Ofala Festival is held in Anambra State where the Obi of Onitsha, Dr Alfred Nnaemeka Achebe and traditional rulers who are adorned in their red caps and royal regalia with their traditional staffs paint the whole place red with their parades and display of affluence and power.



Carniriv  
This is an annual festival, held in Port Harcourt, Nigeria. The Carnival starts few weeks before Christmas, and lasts for seven days. During this time several ceremonial events are held, most of which hold some cultural and or sacred significance. The Port Harcourt Carnival bears certain uniqueness as it combines two carnivals - a purely cultural carnival and a contemporary Caribbean style carnival- in one. This gives it an edge over all other regional and continental carnivals, and presents with the principal advantage which must be consummately exploited. The Government of Rivers State recognizes Carniriv as its biggest tourism export. With economic interests increasingly identifying tourism as a viable alternative to the fossil fuel economy–especially in these parts–the state government has exhibited its commitment to developing this carnival into a regionally unrivalled and globally reckoned tourist attraction.
