Chinedu attempts another Guinness World Record in Lagos
After setting a new Guinness World Record for the farthest distance traveled while balancing a football on his head in March this year, a Nigerian, Harrison Chinedu, has set aside November 20 for another historic move, this time, a 100km distance with the ball balanced on his head riding a bicycle.
Last year, Chinedu, who played football in Cambodia, walked a distance of over 45. 64km with the ball on his head to break the Guinness World Record, which was set in 2014 by an Indian soldier NaibSubedar Azad Singh.
Chinedu achievement in March 2016 started at Kilometre 46 at the RCCG Redemption Camp along the Lagos-Ibadan expressway. Another Indian citizen who walked a distance of 49km recently has broken that record.
Now, the Nigerian is looking forward to setting another World Record in a different format by balancing the ball on his head while riding a bicycle in a distance of 100km.
Speaking with The Guardian in Lagos yesterday, Chinedu said that the November 20 event in Lagos would commence at Akodo in far end of Lekki around Eleko Bench and terminate at the National Stadium in Surulere.
Giving highlights on the November 20 event, veteran sports journalist, Effiong Nyom, said that after Chinedu’s earlier record was broken by an Indian, the Nigerian decided to write to Guinness World Record requesting to be given an opportunity to try his hands on three things.
“This event on November 20 is the first of two attempts in 2016,” Nyom said. “This idea of balancing the ball on his head and riding a bicycle over a distance has not been done before. It is purely a creative by Chinedu and has been approved by Guinness World Record. Another event will hold in Calabar in December.”
Nyom praised officials of bet9ja for associating with Chinedu even when other Nigerians were skeptical on whether on not he would succeed in the first attempt in March, just as he revealed that Guinness World Record had set evaluation to them to study ahead the November 20 event.
The Marketing Manager of bet9ja, Tunji Meshoye said that his company decided to support Chinedu because of his determination. Meshoye stated that bet9ja would continue to associate with Nigerians, especially those with great talent.
Former FIFA-badged referee and senior lecturer at the National Institute for Sports, Dr. Alex Mana, who is heading the technical aspect of the event said he would continue to render his services to Nigerians.
