Win N100,000 in the Sigma Tertiary Essay Competition For Nigerian Undergraduates 2016

The Sigma Club of the University of Ibadan is pleased to announce the maiden edition of its essay competition, the 2016 Sigma Tertiary Essay Competition. The competition is intended to amplify or create awareness on cogent social issues concerning youths in Nigeria.

About the competition

The topic for the 2016 Sigma Tertiary Essay Competition is ‘Formal Education and the Nigerian Youth: Why the Street is taking over’. This year’s topic is centered around the growing attraction of the world outside formal education to young Nigerians. Formal education in Nigeria has become excessively unattractive to Nigerian youths in terms of quality and process; how grossly inadequate, the attention government at all levels is paying to this anomaly and how social and non-educational activities are at the core of corporate fascination. The essay is amplifying this concern and with the understanding that ‘Street’ is in this context metaphorical.

About Sigma Club

Sigma Club is a socio-philanthropic organisation established in 1950 at the University of Ibadan (then University College, Ibadan) to help develop the leadership, managerial and communication skills of her members (male undergraduates of the University of Ibadan) with the bigger aim of producing whole men equipped with the capacity to engineer their immediate society and the world.
For almost seven decades, Sigma Club remains an unmatched platform for networking and capacity development for young Nigerians; while also breeding a unique class of whole men – too numerous to mention – to expedite nation building.
