Captain Elechi Amadi dies at 82.
Captain Elechi Amadi was born on May 12, 1934
Later was enrolled into Government College, Umuahia 1948 - 1952
and moved to Survey School, Oyo 1953 - 1954
University College, Ibadan 1955 - 1959
Institution of training and organisation development, University of Pittsburg and Brookings Institution 1977
Qualification:
i. B.Sc. (London) Maths, Physics
ii. Land Survey Certificate
Experience: Former East Regional Government of Nigeria.
Land Surveyor (1959 - 1960)
Physics/Maths teacher in several schools
(1960 - 1963)
Asa Grammar School.
Principal (1967 - 1968)
Rivers State Government
Permanent Secretary (1973 - 1983)
Responsibilities included the following:
Construction of several standard secondary schools including Isaka, Emohua, Eneka, Isiokpo, etc.
Commissioner for Education (1987 - 1988)
Achievements included the following:
Set up pension schemes for University of Science and technology, College of Education and College of Arts and Science.
Being sworn in as Commissioner for Education by Governor Anthony Ukpo in 1987
Set up Bori Polytechnic.
Organised and supervised the first Junior WAEC in the state. It was fully computerized.

Achievements included the following:
Built the Marine Base Housing Estate.
Set in progress the construction of the Aggrey Road Waterfront Housing Estate.

Retired in the Rank of CAPTAIN.
